Smythesdale was formerly a gold-mining town in the Gold Rush days.  It is located 19kms south west of Ballarat surrounded by picturesque valleys and Enfield State Park.

There is a rail trail running through Smythesdale which begins in Ballarat and runs for 54km through to Skipton, fantastic for the keen mountain bikers.

The Woady Yaloak Equestrian Centre is just a small 1km down the road.
